FC Boys Volunteers Kick Off Year

On a beautiful Tuesday evening, a record number of Bochurim from the local Yeshiva Gedolos gathered at the JCM for an incredible Volunteer Kickoff.

The Friendship Circle gives these Bochurim an opportunity to befriend and visit children and young adults with special needs in the comfort of their own homes. Additionally, the Bochurim can learn in their Yeshivos with their special friends Chavrusa-style and volunteer at a slew of programs and activities that are planned for the coming year.

After a delicious Milchig buffet provided by Sauce N Cheese, the Bochurim entered the JCM’s theater for the main program. The boys watched a beautiful video in which Yisroel Brikman, Friendship Circle participant and active member in the Friendship Circle community, elaborated on what Friendship Circle programs and the relationships with the volunteers mean to him.

The boys then got together for a role-playing workshop. The session helped them to deepen their understanding about the children and young adults with whom they will be connecting.

Mendy Richler, Friendship Circle’s Boys Division Coordinator, spoke to the Bochurim about the perks of being a volunteer – the much sought-after FC Gear and outings they can earn for their dedication. However, all physical benefits aside, Richler emphasized that the greatest gift of all is what the members of Friendship Circle have to offer. He pointed out that the Bochurim have an unbelievable opportunity to learn from and spend time with such amazing individuals. Richler then thanked the Bochurim for dedicating what little “free time” they have, to make a difference in our community.

As the evening came to a close, Rabbi Berel Majesky, director of Friendship Circle of Brooklyn, spoke to the Bochurim about the importance of commitment and consistency. He then thanked the volunteers for taking upon themselves this unique Shlichus, describing to the Bochurim how visiting a special friend’s home becomes a special bond and friendship that is priceless and will last a lifetime.
