Friendship Circle has always been about bringing people together—families, volunteers, and the broader community—through the power of friendship and inclusion. Now, for the first time in Crown Heights, that spirit of unity is hitting the ice in an exciting and meaningful way. On Sunday, March 23, hockey enthusiasts, Friendship Circle supporters, and members of the local community will come together for a one-of-a-kind charity game, where passion for the sport meets a deep commitment to making a difference.
The idea was born when Boruch Shpiegelman, an avid hockey player who has participated in numerous tournaments, saw an opportunity to combine his love for the game with a cause close to his heart. “The event will not only raise funds for Friendship Circle but also introduce new faces to its incredible mission,” says director Rabbi Berel Majesky.
Players will fundraise for the opportunity to be on the team, creating a dynamic and engaging way to support children with special needs while enjoying a sport they love. More than just a game, this is a community-wide effort to strengthen bonds and create lasting impact.
While the event itself promises fun and excitement, what truly makes it special is the personal stories of the players stepping up to be part of it. For many, this is far more than just a hockey game—it’s a chance to give back in a way that is deeply personal.
Moshe Dahan, an experienced Friendship Circle benefit game participant, is traveling all the way from Pennsylvania to take part. Having played in multiple Friendship Circle games in Montreal as well as the RCCS Hockey Classic every year, Moshe’s dedication runs deep. “Friendship Circle benefits will always hold a special place in my heart,” he shares. “I have a sister with special needs, and I can’t put into words the impact Friendship Circle had on her and our family. I always looked forward to putting on the Friendship Circle jersey and representing my sister while giving back to an organization that means so much to me.”
Yisroel Stiefel, who grew up on Shlichus, found his passion for hockey in an unexpected place—near the Chabad House where he lived. He trained with the top team in his region but never played officially due to Shabbos. Now, he’s using his skills to contribute in a different way. “Growing up, I never saw anything like what Friendship Circle does. Where I grew up, people with special needs were often overlooked, and it was heartbreaking to see them struggle. Now, I have a chance to help change that. Friendship Circle creates real friendships and gives kids and young adults with special needs the love, respect, and care they deserve.”
Friendship Circle Director, Chani Majesky, shares, “We’re always looking for ways to bring people together and expand our circle of friendship. This event has never been done before in Crown Heights, and it’s incredible to see a whole new group of people getting involved and doing something meaningful for our local community.”
With free parking, an exciting atmosphere, and a strong sense of purpose, this event is set to be memorable. Whether you’re a hockey fan, a Friendship Circle supporter, or simply looking to be part of something meaningful, this is an opportunity to come together and make a real difference.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 23, and join us in celebrating the power of friendship, community, and giving back—one goal at a time.
